Workiva is a progressive data management company that is revolutionizing the field of worldwide digital information organization. Workiva selected Jacobs/Ryan Associates to design an atrium interior to act as a central location for social interaction at their corporate campus. The atrium serves as an opportunity for interns for Iowa State University and experienced programmers to gather informally and exchange ideas in both large and small collectives. It also functions as an informal dining and meeting area during the day, and a space for social gatherings in the evenings. With the seasonal cold of Iowan winters, the interior atrium can be a verdantly green space that is welcoming and inviting throughout all seasons.

Jacobs/Ryan Associates took great care in selecting the plantings for the atrium, with a wide range of heights, colors, and textures. The soaring 36’ height ceiling of the atrium allowed 22’ height ‘Wintergreen’ Ficus, which were planted in tree pits with grates to provide room for circulation throughout the interior space.

The Workiva interior atrium is also noteworthy in its field for its application of contemporary materials, methods, and aesthetics to a workplace atrium to recreate the experience of a contemporary plaza in a space that can be enjoyed year-round. Porcelain tiles take advantage of superior strength in a large paver, light columns lend a strongly modern feel, and clean design lines provide contemporary edges to the lushly planted tropical gardens. Intellectual ingenuity is at the core of Workiva’s brand, and providing this workplace oasis offers the opportunity for collaboration and growth that Workiva seeks to continue its forward momentum.
